FAQ

  • Q: You tell me the contents of your cylinders are not poisonous. Why do I have to pay a hazardous fee for shipping them?
A: Although none of our Calgaz mixtures are poisonous, they must be shipped as a hazardous material. Therefore, a hazardous fee is involved when shipping our gases. This is due to the inherent danger of compressed gas and not from a chemical hazard. Once the cylinders are relieved of pressure they are not considered a hazardous material or waste.

  • Q: Can I use the same regulator on all of my gas mixtures?
A: Yes and no. The regulator used depends more on the type of cylinder than the gas. Our 8AL, 2AL and 6D cylinders all have a 5/8"-18UNF outlet, therefore the same regulator would fit on any of these cylinders. Our 7EOC and 7HP cylinders both have a CGA 600 and obviously could use the same regulator. If you are going to use the same regulator for different gases it is recommended that you purge the regulator before applying the sample to your instrument. We highly recommend dedicated regulators for reactive gas mixtures.

  • Q: Why can't I find "balance air" on any of my Material Safety Data Sheets?
A: Our Material Safety Data Sheets do not list Air as the balance gas for any of our gas mixtures. Air is actually composed of 21% oxygen with the balance being nitrogen. If your gas mixture is labeled balance air, the MSDS will list oxygen under the heading "Containing one or more of the Following Components in a Nitrogen Balance Gas".

  • Q: What is LEL/LFL?
A: LEL and LFL (Lower Explosive Limit and Lower Flammable Limit) refer to the lowest concentration of gas or vapor (% by volume in air) that burns or explodes if an ignition source is present at ambient temperatures. Generally, the most common LEL/LFL mixes that are requested are 50%LEL/LFL or lower.

  • Q: I want to place an order, but I do not have credit established with your company. Can I charge my order with a credit card?
A: Yes. You may place your order by phone or fax. Please be prepared to provide us with the product you wish to order, the credit card number and the expiration date of the card.

  • Q: Can your cylinders be transported by air?
A: All of our cylinders can be transported in the hold of cargo and/or passenger aircraft when shipped as dangerous goods. Compressed gases cannot be carried aboard or checked as luggage on passenger aircraft.

  • Q: What kind of paperwork do I need to export your cylinders and can I prepare my own?
A : Paperwork varies according to mode of transport and destination but in most cases, you will at least require a dangerous goods note. Only personnel trained in the transport of dangerous goods may complete this paperwork.

  • Q: I recently bought some cylinders from you which I now need to re-export, can you provide me with the appropriate paperwork?
A: Unfortunately, transport regulations prevent us from completing dangerous goods notes once the goods have been shipped. This is because we are no longer able to comply with the shipper's responsibilities in terms of onward packing, labeling etc.

  • Q: What kind of hazardous cargo are your cylinders?
A: More information about the classification of our products can be found under section 14 of our MSDSs.

  • Q: I am based in the Middle East, can your cylinders withstand extreme temperatures?
A: We recommend that our cylinders are not exposed to temperatures exceeding 125ºF (51.6ºC) or below 15ºF (-9.4*C).

  • Q: Are your cylinders approved for Europe?
A: Our 2AL, 8AL and 6D cylinders all carry approval to European Standard EN12205.

  • Q: Can you tell me what commodity/tariff codes apply to your products?
    A: 2804 29 90 for all gas mixtures - 2804 30 00 for pure Nitrogen - 2711 29 00 for pure Methane - 2804 10 00 for pure Hydrogen - 9032 20 90 for regulator - 3923 10 00 for carrying cases - 3917 32 53 for tubing - 8207 30 90 for recycling tools (Only the first six digits apply in North America).

  • Q: Are there any countries I can't ship to?
A: As an American manufacturer we are governed by regulations forbidding export to a limited number of countries. Please contact us for the most up to date information.

  • Q: What are the water volumes of your cylinders?
    A: 1AL - 1 liter, 2AL - 0.92 liters, 8AL - 1.72 liters, 6D - 1.52 liters, 5E - 3.69 liters and 7EOC/7HP - 1 liter
