Quick reference of safety & usage tips

Safety

Never refill CALGAZ cylinders.

  • Always use safety glasses when working with high pressure gases and regulators.
  • Familiarize yourself with the material safety data sheets (MSDS) before use.
  • Do not be lulled into complacency because of the convenient small size of CALGAZ cylinders. The cylinders are high pressure containers and may injure you if not handled with care.
  • Protect CALGAZ cylinders from exposure to weather. Moisture can cause surface rust and enter the valve stem resulting in contamination of the gas mixture during engagement of the regulator.
  • Always hold the gauge and regulator away from your face during engagement with the cylinder.
  • Do not store CALGAZ cylinders with the regulator engaged in the valve. The regulator is not designed as the primary sealing mechanism.
  • Before attaching a regulator to the 8AL or 2AL cylinder, ensure that the regulator is in the on position. Once the regulator is fully engaged in the cylinder, turn the regulator on/off knob to the off position until ready to sample. This procedure will help prevent air from being introduced into the cylinder and contaminating the reactive gas mixture.
  • Do not over tighten the regulator when turning the regulator off. It will take a few seconds for the flow of gas to stop because of pressure being relieved in the regulator body. Over tightening will damage the regulator's seat.
  • Keep your sampling system short and use compatible materials in the gas system. Teflon tubing works well in the majority of applications.
  • Use properly maintained and specified regulators for the cylinders and gases in use. Avoid adapters to change gas service. Use only those accessories rated for proper pressure and gas service.

Recycling

As part of our continued commitment to the community and the environment, Calgaz has always promoted recycling of the cylinder material.

As a demonstration of that commitment we have introduced a Recycling Kit. The “Recycling Kit” consists of this special patented recycle tool with instructions and safety glasses The tool is designed to safely “destroy” the cylinder valve and render it useless. The process will leave a visible hole in the cylinder valve assembly. Although we highly recommend the “Recycle Tool” be used only with empty cylinders (especially cylinders containing flammable gas mixtures), special ports built into the tool allow for the safe venting of any residual gas that may be present.
Cylinders that are destroyed with the “Recycle Tool” may be shipped common carrier without restrictions. The destroyed cylinders may be returned to Calgaz, or may be collected by local scrap metal dealers for recycling.

The Recycling Kits are available in two model numbers:

  • Model 4250:  Safety glasses and Recycle Tool for use with 8AL, 2AL and 6D cylinders.
  • Model 4260:  Safety glasses and Recycle Tool for use with 7EOC and 7H cylinders.
  • Recycle tools are warranted for 24 months.
